Help Wanted for Friends in Guatemala

September 28, 2010

Dear friends,

As I’ve mentioned in previous messages  Guatemala has been hit hard by rain this year. See https://guatemalaschool.wordpress.com/2010/09/17/september-2010-update/  and https://guatemalaschool.wordpress.com/2010/07/26/friends-still-in-need-%e2%80%93-tropical-storm-agatha/ for details.  Our friends with the CCDA (Comite Campesino del Altiplano) whose members grow Cafe Justicia have been dealing with the aftermath of the rains and have been providing assistance to those affected by flooding and mudslides. One of their projects is a medical clinic which is treating the victims of the rain. They have issued a call for medical supplies — everything from anti-biotics, cold medicines (everyone had a cold on my last trip to Guatemala because of the cold and damp conditions), Imodium, bandages and vitamins to stretchers, stethoscopes, and thermometers. All of the items can be purchased from pharmacies and medical supply stores in Guatemala. I will be flying to Guatemala next weekend and hope to spend Monday shopping for supplies in Guatemala City. If you could support me in this endevour, it would be appreciated. If you can give or pledge money, please let me know by Friday. I’m working on this with some friends in Toronto and Guatemala City. (We are not working with any organization on this so no tax receipts will be given for donations.)

Thanks.

Ken
